Private Sidney Joseph Smith

Born on 4 August 1873 in Stephen Township, Huron, Ontario - son of John Smith, Hay, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address in Hay, Ontario; trade as laborer; single; currently a member of the active militia (no details); no previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 10 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; auburn hair.

Joined the 161st Battalion, CEF, in Exeter, Ontario, on 7 December 1915 (number 654092) - taken on the strength of the 58th Battalion, CEF, on 27 November 1916 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 12 August 1918 - rejoined the 58th Battalion on 9 September 1918 - killed in action on 29 September 1918 - buried in Anneux British Cemetery (grave II.D.13), France.
