Born on 1 January 1883 in Bombay, India - friend of J. Oldham, Renfrew, Ontario (listed as next of kin) - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in London House, Montreal, Quebec; trade as cook; single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 7 inches; chest of 37.5 inches fully expanded; weight of 150 pounds; redskin complexion; brown eyes; black hair.

Joined the 240th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 22 December 1916 (number 1042610) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - invalided sick to England on 16 July 1918.
