Captain Joseph Gregor Shaw

Born on 26 June 1882 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island - brother of Mrs. D.W. Fraser, Montreal, Quebec - at the time of his commissioning in 1915: trade as medical doctor; single; no current military service; previously served in a summer training camp in 1905 at Charlottetown (two weeks); Presbyterian; height of 5 feet 9 inches; chest of 37 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; grey eyes; dark hair.

Joined the 62nd Battalion, CEF, in Vancouver, British Columbia, as the battalion medical officer on 1 July 1915 - taken on the strength of the Canadian Army Medical Corps, CEF, in France on 9 June 1916 - attached to the 38th Battalion, CEF, from 17 March to 24 May 1917.

Recommended for a Military Cross, but no award made - unit recommendation dated 3 July 1917: "For valuable services rendered in his capacity of Medical Officer during attack on Vimy Ridge and succeeding two months."
