Born on 1 September 1894 in Selkirk, Manitoba - son of Henrietta Pearson, Selkirk, Manitoba - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Sceptre, Saskatchewan; trade as tinsmith; single; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 6.25 inches; chest of 35 inches fully expanded; clear complexion; gray eyes; dark hair.

Joined the 97th Battalion, CEF, in Sceptre, Saskatchewan, on 4 April 1916 (number 261117) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 19 or 20 March 1917 - invalided sick to England on 30 August 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 4 July 1918 - wounded on 27 September 1918 - invalided to England on 14 October 1918.
