Private Alex Hayward Penny

Born on 13 September 1893 in Horsham, Sussex, England - son of the (late) Richard and Rachel Penny, London, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as mechanical draftsman; single; no current or previous military service; Baptist; height of 5 feet 5 inches; chest of 35 inches fully expanded.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Montreal, Quebec, on 4 March 1915 (number 410931) - transferred to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 16 July 1915 - killed in action on 2 June 1916 - name inscribed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (panel 10), Belgium.
