Joined the 156th Battalion, CEF, in Kemptville, Ontario, on 12 February 1916 (number 639598) - promoted to lance-corporal on 7 June 1916 - promoted to corporal on 21 September 1916 - departed for overseas on 17 October 1916 - embarked at Halifax on 18 October 1916 - disembarked at Liverpool on 28 October 1916 - appointed acting corporal on 28 October 1916 - taken on the strength of the 109th Battalion, CEF, on 2 November 1916 - taken on the strength of the 124th Battalion, CEF, on 8 December 1916 - rejoined the 156th Battalion on 6 January 1917 - reverted to private on own request for the purpose of proceeding overseas - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 19 January 1918 - joined the 38th Battalion in the field on 22 January 1918 - died at No.8 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux, France, on 1 October 1918 of gunshot wounds to the chest received that day - buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery (grave V.C.15), France.
