Born on 2 August 1894 in Hamilton Parish, Bermuda - son of Ruthven Thompson, Harrington Sound, Bermuda - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: trade as real estate; single ("Have 1 legally adopted boy 8 yrs."); no current military service; previously served as a cadet with the Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps (three years); Church of England; height of 5 feet 6.5 inches; chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded; fresh complexion; gray eyes; light brown hair.
Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in St. George's, Bermuda, on 6 January 1916 (number 410972) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - wounded at duty on 1 October 1918 - sent to England for Officers' Training Course on 30 October 1918 - later promoted to acting-sergeant.
Awarded the Military Medal - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 17 April 1917: "For gallant conduct during action of Apr. 9/17."
