Born on 10 June 1885 in Maxwellton, Scotland - husband of Janet McQueen, Maxwellton, Scotland - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as baker; married; no current or previous military service; Presbyterian; height of 5 feet 3.75 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; gray eyes; dark hair.

Joined the 83rd Battalion, CEF, on 10 August 1915 (number 171349) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 11 or 12 July 1917 - wounded on 10 or 12 August 1918 - invalided to England on 16 August 1918.
