Born on 22 April 1880 (1914) / 22 June 1880 (1915) in Ottawa, Ontario - son of Mrs. Sarah Aumond, Ottawa, Ontario - attestation forms note trade as saddler (1914) / carpenter (1915), single, not currently a member of the military, previously a member of the Prince of Wales' Dragoons for three years (1914) / Governor General's Foot Guards for four years (1915), height of 5 feet 8 inches, chest of 35.5 inches, sallow complexion, blue eyes, dark brown hair, Roman Catholic.

Attempted to join an unnamed unit on 30 December 1914 (number 1288611) - joined the 38th Battalion on 26 February 1915 (number 410426) - transferred to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Battalion on 25 August 1915 - wounded on 7 June 1916 - transferred to the 4th Battalion, Canadian Railway Troops, on 31 May 1918 - transferred to the Labour Pool on 5 November 1918.
