Private Richard Henry Smith

Born on 1 August 1884 in Bristol, England - son of Susan Shaw, Navan, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as miner; single; no current military service; previously served with the 6th Regiment, 2nd Canadian Contingent, South Africa (seven months); Church of England; height of 5 feet 5.5 inches; chest of 38 inches fully expanded; swarthy complexion; brown eyes; black hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 2 March 1915 (number 410498) - transferred to the 2nd Battalion, CEF, on 25 August 1915.
