Born on 23 January 1878 in Lambeth, London, England - husband of Elizabeth Soundy, McAlpine, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in McAlpine, Ontario; trade as fireman; married; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 2 inches; chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded; medium dark complexion; brownish eyes; black hair.

Joined the 154th Battalion, CEF, in Vankleek Hill, Ontario, on 17 February 1916 (number 633485) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 24 May 1917 - invalided sick to England on 7 September 1917.
