Born on 8 January 1887 in Ringwood, Hampshire, England - husband of Elizabeth Charlotte Robertson, Gananoque, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Gananoque, Ontario; trade as machinist; married; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 6.5 inches; chest of 38.75 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; hazel eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the 156th Battalion, CEF, in Brockville, Ontario, on 8 January 1916 (number 639363) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 24 May 1917 - wounded on 30 October 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 14 December 1917 - transferred to the 4th Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps, CEF, on 1 May 1918.
