Born on 1 March 1877 in Camb Watword[?], Ireland - brother of Miss Annie Powers, Wexford County, Ireland - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Evert[?], Massachusetts; trade as laborer, single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 8.5 inches; chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; brown eyes; black hair.

Joined the 240th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 26 December 1916 (number 1042621) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 10 or 11 November 1917 - transferred to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, CEF, on 28 November 1917.
