Joined the 215th Battalion, CEF, in Brantford, Ontario, on 21 February 1916 (number 322945) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 27 or 28 March 1918 - wounded on 29 or 30 September 1918 - invalided to England on 2 October 1918.

Private Messecar was the son of C.L. Messecar the founder of the rope and twine manufacturer Brantford Cordage which grew to have 900 employees and was at one time the largest rope manufacturer in the British Empire.
