Born on 10 September 1897 (real age?) in Mattawa, Ontario - son of Mrs. Mae McOrmond, Mattawa, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as farmer; single; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 5 inches; chest of 37 inches fully expanded; weight of 133 pounds; fair complexion; blue eyes; light hair.

Joined the 97th Battalion, CEF, in Smiths Falls, Ontario, on 15 October 1915 (number 787307) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 25 or 26 April 1917 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion to England as a "minor" on 13 October 1917.
