Private George Vincent Long, MM

Born on 22 January 1895 in Brantford, England - son of Harry Long, Brantford, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Elgin, Ontario; trade as cheese maker; single; no current or previous military service; Methodist; height of 5 feet 9 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair.

Joined the 156th Battalion, CEF, in Elgin, Ontario, on 21 January 1916 (number 639446) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 6 June 1919.

Awarded the Military Medal - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 7 September 1918: "For gallantry as a Company runner, during Scarpe Operations, Sept 1st and 2nd 1918."
