Private Benjamin Alfred Long

Born on 7 March 1897 or 16 March 1898 in Norfolk, England - son of Maria Long, Toronto, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Uxbridge, Ontario; trade as labourer; single; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 3.5 inches; chest of 33 inches fully expanded; light complexion; grey eyes; light hair - at the time of his enlistment in 1918: previously served with the 38th Battalion, CEF, (three years [note]); discharged from 38th Battalion, CEF, having been "Gassed".

Joined the 116th Battalion, CEF, in Sunderland, Ontario, on 6 January 1916 (number 745414) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 4 or 6 December 1916 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion to England as a "minor" on 17 June 1917 - [then what] - joined the 1st Depot Battalion, 1st Central Ontario Regiment, CEF (Siberian Contingent), in Toronto, Ontario, on 16 August 1918.
