Born on 4 December 1889 in Chichester, Sussex, England - son of Frederick Thomas and Louisa Hobbs, Hamilton, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as watchmaker, single, currently a member of the Composite Battalion, previously served with the Royal Sussex Battalion, Methodist, height of 5 feet 10.5 inches, chest of 36.5 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair.
Joined the 87th Battalion, CEF, in Montreal, Quebec, on 18 October 1915 (number 177169) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, in England on 14 July 1916 - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - attached to the 12th Trench Mortar Battery, CEF, from 16 August 1916 - wounded on 25 May 1917 - rejoined the 12th Trench Mortar Battery on 6 July 1917 - wounded on 21 August 1917 - invalided to England on 25 August 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 11 or 12 April 1918 - attached to the 12th Trench Mortar Battery from 7 June 1918 - killed in action on 22 July 1918 - buried in Anzin-St. Aubin British Cemetery (grave III.D.19), France.
