Born on 12 September 1890 in Ottawa, Ontario - son of James Brooke Halkett, Kingston, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address in Shawville, Quebec, trade as physician, Church of England, currently a member of the Army Medical Corps, previously served with the Ottawa Collegiate Institute cadets (one year).
Joined the 77th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, as its medical officer on 31 August 1915 - departed Canada for the United Kingdom with the 77th Battalion on 19 June 1916 - transferred and attached to the 4th Canadian Labour Battalion, CEF, on 25 February 1917 - attached to the 38th Battalion, CEF, as its medical officer on 17 August 1917 - ceased attachment and transferred to the 3rd General Hospital and the Canadian Army Medical Corps on 27 November 1918 - returned to Canada on 13 June 1919.
Awarded the Military Cross - official citation: "For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during operations against the Drocourt-Queant line near Dury between 1st/3rd September, 1918. Near Vis-en-Artois, the area in which the regimental aid post was located, was persistently searched by enemy artillery, causing many casualties. He attended to the wounded in the open, in spite of heavy shelling. Later, the regimental aid post was established in an open trench, and he again carried on under severe shell fire with untiring energy and utter disregard for his own personal safety." - unit recommendation dated 7 September 1918: "For gallant services in dressing the wounded during Scarpe Operation Sept. 1st and 2nd, 1918."
During the early postwar years continued to serve with the permanent Canadian Army Medical Corps, being stationed in St. Jean, Quebec, in 1926.
