Born on 7 August 1883 in Ottawa, Ontario - next of kin listed as Mrs. Mary McGovern, Ottawa, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as bookbinder; single; no current military service; previously served with Princess Louise's Dragoon Guards (three years); Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; brown eyes; black hair.

Joined the Remount Depot, CEF, on 13 April 1915 (number 49708) - transferred to No.1 Canadian Veterinary Hospital, CEF, on 7 July 1915 - transferred to the Canadian Army Veterinary Corps, CEF, on 10 April 1916 - wounded on 29 June 1917 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 8 or 9 April 1917 - struck off strength to England on 9 July 1917.
