Born on 20 August 1876 in Coteau Station, Quebec - next of kin listed as Mrs. Camille Dumouchel, Montreal, Quebec - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as labourer; single; currently a member of the Active Militia (no details provided); no previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 5.5 inches; chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; dark blue eyes; black hair.

Joined the 37th Battalion, CEF, in Niagara, Ontario, on 7 June 1915 (number 408815) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 5 or 6 July 1917 - wounded on 5 September 1917 - invalided to England on 19 September 1917.
