Private Alton Shirley Dike

Born on 13 June 1891 in Stoneham, Massachusetts - husband of Helen Jane Dike, Wakefield, Massachusetts - son of Rozilta Dike, Stoneham, Massachusetts - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Whitewood, Saskatchewan, trade as silversmith, married, no current military service, previously served with the Stoneham High Cadets, Unitarian, height of 5 feet 7 inches, chest of 37.5 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair.

Joined the 97th Battalion, CEF, in Whitewood, Saskatchewan, on 14 July 1916 (number 261649) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 5 or 6 March 1917 - wounded on 9 April 1917 - invalided to England on 18 April 1917 - died of those wounds on 28 June 1917 - buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery (grave IX.D.II), England.
