Private George John Samuel Castle

Born on 11 December 1877 in Trudys[?] Parish, Bermuda - husband of Eldora Lee Jane Castle, Trudys[?] Parish, Bermuda - enlistment records provide the following: trade as stoker, married with six children (boys aged 13, 7 and 5 and girls aged 15, 9 and 2), no current military service, previously served nine years with the Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps, Church of England, height of 5 feet 6.75 inches, chest of 36.5 inches fully expanded, bronzed complexion, light brown eyes, dark brown hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, on Boaz Island, Bermuda, on 8 December 1915 (number 410970) - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - invalided sick to England on 14 November 1916 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 5 or 6 March 1917 - struck off strength to the 12th Canadian Light Trench Mortar Battery on 23 August 1918 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 13 November 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1919.
