Company Quartermaster-Sergeant Bruce Buchanan, MM and Bar

Born on 17 November 1887 in Hastings, England - son of Charlotte Buchanan, Hastings, Sussex, England - enlistment records provide the following: trade as labourer, single, currently a member of the militia, no previous military service, height of 5 feet 3 inches, chest of 34 inches fully expanded.

Joined the 38th Canadian Infantry Battalion in 8 May 1915 (number 410041) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - wounded on 23 January 1917 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 5 May 1919.

Awarded the Military Medal - no citation - unit recommendation dated 17 April 1917: "For gallant conduct during operations Apr. 9th 1917."

Awarded the Bar to the Military Medal - no citation - unit recommendation dated 30 October 1918: "For gallantry during operations at Valenciennes."
