Joined the 38th Battalion on 8 May 1915 (number 410022) - served with the battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the battalion on 13 August 1916 - transferred to the 1st Tram Company, Canadian Engineers, on 23 November 1917 - wounded on 2 May 1918.
