Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 20 July 1915 (number 410226) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - struck off strength to the Officers' Training Course on 29 October 1918 - later promoted to acting-sergeant.
Awarded the Military Medal - no citation - unit recommendation dated 5 October 1918: "For Gallantry during the operations in the vicinity of Bourlon, 29th Sept 1918".
