Private David Stewart

Born on 14 October 1875 in Brexburn, Scotland - husband of Mary Stewart, Toronto, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address same as wife; trade as iron worker; married; no current or previous military service; Methodist; height of 5 feet 6.25 inches fully expanded; chest of 38 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; grey eyes; light brown hair.

Joined the 166th Battalion, CEF, in Toronto, Ontario, on 26 February 1916 (number 669870) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 27 November or 1 December 1916 - wounded on 27 March 1918 - invalided to England on 1 April 1918.

Awarded a Mention-in-Despatches - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 7 November 1917: "Throughout operations Oct. 29th to Nov. 2/17 this man displayed conspicuous courage and devotion. He worked most courageously and unceasingly as a S.B. and later volunteered to act as runner."
