Born on 1 January 1896 in Pembroke, Ontario - son of Mrs. Armeline St. Amand, Pembroke, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Pembroke, Ontario; trade as labourer; single; no current military service; previously served with the 42nd Regiment and the Home Guard (17 months); Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 5.25 inches; chest of 35.75 inches fully expanded; weight of 150 pounds; ruddy complexion; blue eyes; brown hair.

Joined the 240th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 29 July 1916 (number 1042056) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 18 or 19 January 1918 - transferred to the Canadian Machine Gun Corps, CEF, on 13 May 1918 - wounded on 7 or 9 September 1918.
