Born on 30 April 1895 in Fort Coulonge, Quebec - son of Theodule St. Denis, Fort Coulonge, Quebec - at the time of his conscription in 1918: present address in Renfrew, Ontario; single; Roman Catholic; trade as machinist; no current or previous military service; height of 5 feet 7.5 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; weight of 135 pounds; fair complexion; blue eyes; brown hair.
Conscripted into the 2nd Depot Battalion, Eastern Ontario Regiment, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 22 January 1918 (number 3320220) - embarked on HMS Lapland in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for overseas on 12 February 1918 - disembarked in England on 24 February 1918 - taken on the strength of the 6th Reserve Battalion in Seaford on 25 February 1918 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Seaford on 10 June 1918 - killed in action on 29 September 1918 - buried in Bourlon Wood Cemetery (grave II.B.9), France.

Thank you for this new information on our Great Uncle, Private Joseph St. Denis. We honored the request of our late Great Aunt and late Father and were able to travel to Bourlon Woods in September 2013 to pay our respects to this brave young man. We were the first family members to visit his grave. It was very emotional. Thank you for your work.
