Private Aleksandre Savchuk

Born in 1897 in Russia - son of Grigory Savchuk, Rodolsk, Russia - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address in Toronto, Ontario; trade as laborer; single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 5.5 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; brown eyes; brown hair.

Joined the 126th Battalion, CEF, in Toronto, Ontario, on 13 December 1915 (number 775375) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 4 or 6 December 1916 - wounded on 9 April 1917 - invalided to England on 13 April 1917 - later served with the Canadian Forestry Corps, CEF.

Awarded the Cross of St. George, 4th Class (Russia) - no official citation - unit recommendation date unknown (award announced 14 January 1918): "For distinguished services rendered."
