Private David George Read

Born on 27 July 1896 in Asphodel Township, Peterborough County, Ontario - son of William G. and Nellie C. Read, Peterborough, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as student O.A.C.; single; currently a member of the Guelph COTC; previous served with a cadet corps (one year); Presbyterian; height of 5 feet 7.5 inches; chest of 37 inches fully expanded; dark complexion; grey eyes; black hair.

Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 16 March 1915 (number 410998) - transferred to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 16 July 1915 - declared missing, presumed dead, on 4 June 1916 - name inscribed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (panel 10), Belgium.
