Lieutenant Joseph Quinten Maunsell

Born on 1 August 1893 in Fort William, Ontario - son of Edward Maunsell, Port Arthur, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address in Ottawa, Ontario; trade as student-at-law; Church of England; no current military service; previously served with the Governor General's Foot Guards (two years).

Joined the 77th Battalion, CEF, as a Lieutenant in Ottawa, Ontario, on 19 October 1915 - appointed platoon commander on 11 February 1916 - departed Canada for overseas on 19 June 1916 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, in England as a Lieutenant on 7 July 1916 - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - wounded on 18 November 1916 - invalided to England on 21 November 1916 - repatriated to Canada on 28 October 1917.

Awarded a Mention in Despatches (London Gazette No.30107, 1 June 1917) - no official citation - unit recommendation dated 3 March 1917: "For distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty."

Recommended for an unnamed decoration on 3 March 1917: "For splendid work, pluck and courage during the attack on Desire Trench Nov. 18/16." - no award made.
