Born on 31 September 1898 in Kingston, Ontario - son of Mrs. William Kingston, Prescott, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Spencerville, Ontario; trade as labourer; single; no current or previous military service; height of 5 feet 6 inches; chest of 35 inches fully expanded; weight of 130 pounds; sandy complexion; fair eyes; sandy hair.

Joined the 240th Battalion, CEF, in Renfrew, Ontario, on 7 December 1916 (number 1042529) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 or 27 September 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 3 May 1919.
