Born on 13 July 1897 in Augusta Township, Ontario - son of Edward King, Augusta Township, Ontario - brother of Private Ford Morton King, 38th Battalion, CEF, and Private Stanley Lloyd King, 38th Battalion, CEF - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Augusta Township, Ontario; trade as farmer; single; no current or previous military service; Methodist; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 33.75 inches fully expanded; sandy complexion; blue eyes; light brown hair.

Joined the 156th Battalion, CEF, in Brockville, Ontario, on 12 January 1916 (number 639211) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 24 May 1917 - wounded on 2 or 3 September 1918 - invalided to England on 17 September 1918.
