Joined the 147th Battalion, CEF, in Owen Sound, Ontario, on 6 January 1916 (number 838526) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 June 1917 - killed in action on 29 September 1918 - buried in Bourlon Wood Cemetery (grave II.B.21), France.

John Jesse Hughes was my great-grand uncle (the brother of my great-grandmother Minnie Harriet Hughes). We visited his grave in Bourlon Wood near Cambrai yesterday.
