Private John Jesse Hughes

Born on 8 February 1887 in Somersetshire, England - husband of Laura Hughes, Durham, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Durham, Ontario, trade as cabinet finisher, married, no current or previous military service, Baptist or Congregationalist, height of 5 feet 6.5 inches, chest of 34 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, blue eyes, dark hair.

Joined the 147th Battalion, CEF, in Owen Sound, Ontario, on 6 January 1916 (number 838526) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 June 1917 - killed in action on 29 September 1918 - buried in Bourlon Wood Cemetery (grave II.B.21), France.

John Jesse Hughes was my great-grand uncle (the brother of my great-grandmother Minnie Harriet Hughes). We visited his grave in Bourlon Wood near Cambrai yesterday. I have a photo of his headstone if you would like to add it to your website. Thank you very much for the information you posted, it was instrumental in helping me find out what happened to him.
