Born on 27 May 1890 in Darlington, Ontario - son of John Holt, Darlington, Ontario - at the time of his conscription in 1918: present address in Darlington, Ontario, single, Methodist, trades as fireman and farmer, no current or previous military service, height of 5 feet 8.75 inches, chest of 33 inches fully expanded, medium complexion, dark grey eyes, light brown hair.

Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, Eastern Ontario Regiment, CEF, in Kingston, Ontario, on 9 January 1918 (number 3055840) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 10 or 11 October 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1919.
