Born on 5 March 1897 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - brother of Alex Gouldhawk, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - at the time of his conscription in 1918: present address in Mount Neho, Saskatchewan, single, Church of England, trade as labourer, no current or previous military service, height of 5 feet 7 inches, chest of 39 inches fully expanded, dark complexion, brown eyes, dark hair.

Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment, in Regina, Saskatchewan, on 11 November 1917 (number 259021) - taken on the strength of the 28th Battalion, CEF, on 5 September 1918 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 21 or 22 September 1918 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 16 June 1919.
