Lieutenant William James Gower

Born on 11 May 1879 in Hastings, Sussex, England - next of kin listed as Jesse Clark Gower, Sussex, England - at the time of his enlistment in 1914: trade as fruit farmer, single, currently a member of the active militia, previously served with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve (five years), Roman Catholic, height of 5 feet 9 inches, chest of 39.5 inches fully expanded, dark complexion, brown eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 15th Battalion, CEF, in Valcartier, Quebec, as an other rank on 22 September 1914 (number 27591) - landed in France with the 15th Battalion on 9 February 1915 - invalided sick to England on 27 September 1915 - rejoined the 15th Battalion on 15 March 1916 - invalided sick to England on 15 April 1916 - transferred to the 92nd Battalion, CEF, as a Lieutenant on 20 November 1916 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, as a Lieutenant on 30 November 1916 - accidentally injured and invalided to England on 4 February 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 9 July 1917 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 10 October 1917.
