Born on 28 December 1893 in Greenmountain, Ontario - son of Henry Echlin, Greenmountain, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: trade as labourer, single, no current or previous military service, Roman Catholic, height of 5 feet 7 inches, chest of 38 inches fully expanded, fair complexion, blue eyes, dandy hair.
Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Smiths Falls, Ontario, on 21 May 1915 (number 410087) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 5 May 1919.
Married K. Pearl Dunn on 30 July 1919 in Toronto, Ontario.
