Joined the 126th Battalion, CEF, in Toronto, Ontario, on 14 December 1915 (number 775263) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 4 or 6 December 1916 - wounded on 9 April 1917 - invalided to England on 13 April 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 11 November 1917 - wounded on 28 September 1918 - invalided to England on 30 September 1918.
Awarded the Military Medal - no citation - unit recommendation dated 4 May 1918: "During raid by this Batt'n. on the Arleux Loop 26-4-18 this N.C.O. was in command of No.1 Section under Lt. J.D. Adams. He led his party with great gallantry and his work showed heroic devotion to duty."
