Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, in Montreal, Quebec, on 15 March 1915 (number 410964) - taken on the strength of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 16 July 1915 - transferred to the Imperial Army on 29 February 1916 in order to be commissioned.
