Private Ernest Carswell

Born on 2 August 1872 in Chatham, England - husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Carswell, Ottawa, Ontario - enlistment records provide the following: trade as skilled laborer, married with a ten-year old child, joined the 42nd Regiment on 27 February 1915, previously served twelve years in the British Army, Church of England, height of 5 feet 6 inches, fair/red complexion, light brown eyes, brown hair.

Joined the 59th Battalion, CEF, on 10 March 1915 - transferred to the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 22 June 1915 (number 410049) - served with the 38th Battalion during its period of garrison duty in Bermuda - landed in France with the 38th Battalion on 13 August 1916 - transferred to the Canadian Labour Pool on 6 December 1917 - transferred to the Canadian Forestry Corps on 16 December 1917.

Died on 6 April 1927.
