Joined the 38th Battalion on 11 March 1915 (number 410960) - transferred to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry on 16 July 1915 - transferred to the Canadian Engineers on 2 April 1916 - transferred to the Canadian Machine Gun Corps on 7 December 1916 - transferred to the Royal Air Force on 13 September 1918 and to be commissioned as an officer.
