Born on 23 October 1891 in Brockville, Ontario - husband of Claudina Merle Bailey, Brockville, Ontario - attestation form notes trade as stationary engineer, married, no current military service, formerly five years' service with the 41st Brockville Rifles, height of 5 feet 11 inches, chest of 38.5 inches, fair complexion, blue eyes, fair hair, Church of England.

Joined the 156th Canadian Infantry Battalion on 16 February 1916 (number 639603) - transferred to the Labour Pool on 3 December 1917 - transferred to the 4th Labour Battalion on 31 March 1918 - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion in France on 9 or 10 May 1918 - transferred to the Canadian Labour Pool on 24 May 1918 - transferred to the CIDB on 10 July 1918.
