Born on 12 May 1878 in New York, New York - brother of Mrs. Eva Trudel, St. Agathe de Monts, Quebec - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Winnipeg, Manitoba; trade as a line etcher; single; no current or previous military service; Roman Catholic; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 39.5 inches fully expanded; ruddy complexion; bluish-gray eyes; red hair.

Joined the 212th Battalion, CEF, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on 1 May 1916 (number 261292) - transferred to the 97th Battalion, CEF - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 12 or 13 April 1917 - invalided sick to England on 14 May 1917 - transferred to the Canadian Labour Pool, CEF, on 23 or 24 December 1917 - rejoined the 38th Battalion on 18 or 19 March 1918 - rejoined the Canadian Labour Pool on 17 April 1918 - transferred to the 2nd Canadian Infantry Works Battalion, CEF, on 14 May 1918 - transferred to the 6th Canadian Army Employment Company, CEF, on 26 July 1918.
