Born on 10 December 1881 in Liverpool, England – son of Esther Sutton Thomas, Walten, Liverpool, England – at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Toronto, Ontario; trade as baker; widower; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 5.75 inches; chest of 36 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; fair hair.

Joined the 204th Battalion, CEF, in Toronto, Ontario, on 15 May 1916 (number 237824) – taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 27 or 28 March 1918 – transferred to the 4th Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps, CEF, on 1 May 1918 – wounded on 4 May 1918 – wounded on 30 September 1918.
