Private John Smith

Born on 1 April 1896 in Dublin, Ireland - brother of Andrew Smith, Mitchell, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address Hespler, Ontario; trade as farming; single; no current or previous military service; Church of England; height of 5 feet 4 inches; chest of 35.5 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; grey eyes; dark brown hair.

Joined the 91st Battalion, CEF, in St. Thomas, Ontario, on 3 December 1915 (number 189569) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 20 or 21 August 1916 - wounded on 18 or 21 November 1916 - transferred to the Canadian Labour Pool, CEF, on 19 March 1918 - transferred to the 97th Canadian Army Employment Company, CEF, on 25 July 1918 - later promoted to sergeant - later served with the YMCA.
