Joined the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 February 1915 (number 410419) - [then] - joined the 77th Battalion, CEF, in Ottawa, Ontario, on 4 August 1915 (number 144353) - rejoined the 38th Battalion in Bermuda on 6 December 1915 - struck off the strength of the 38th Battalion on 22 January 1916 - landed in France with the 73rd Battalion, CEF, on 12 August 1916 - transferred to the 13th Battalion, CEF, on 19 April 1917 - transferred to the Canadian Labour Pool, CEF, on 4 January 1918.

This was my grandfather. I am Nelson Herbert Scharf of Roseville Michigan USA, the son of Wesley Leonard Scharf, he had(1)brother Nelson E. Scharf of Ottawa Ontario Canada. My father moved to Detroit where he met my mother, Dorothy Janet Sutherland. They had(3)children, Shirley, Constance and Nelson...aka "Little Herbie"
