Born on 25 March 1890 in Lanark, Ontario - husband of Grace Robinson, Perth, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1916: present address in Perth, Ontario; trade as laborer; married; no current military service; previously served with the 42nd Regiment (three years); Presbyterian; height of 5 feet 8 inches; chest of 37 inches fully expanded; weight of 170 pounds; dark complexion; grey eyes; black hair.

Joined the 130th Battalion, CEF, in Perth, Ontario, on 6 March 1916 (number 787137) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 14 or 15 November 1916 - invalided sick to England on 16 February 1919.
