Born on 19 July 1888 in Meaford, Ontario - husband of Lily Maud Raven, Meaford, Ontario - at the time of his enlistment in 1915: present address in Meaford, Ontario; trade as machinist; married; no current or previous military service; religious denomination "Disciples"; height of 5 feet 4.5 inches; chest of 35 inches fully expanded; fair complexion; blue eyes; fair hair.

Joined the 147th Battalion, CEF, in Owen Sound, Ontario, on 7 December 1915 (number 838168) - taken on the strength of the 38th Battalion, CEF, on 26 or 27 June 1917 - wounded on 31 October 1917 - invalided to England on 22 November 1917.
